Job Description
About the Role
The Group Production Manager (Citrus) Malelane will lead the production team to achieve optimal crop yields and quality, while ensuring compliance with export market standards. This role requires a strong background in horticulture or a related field, combined with extensive experience in agricultural research, development, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full crop production from orchard/field to market
- Implement strategic production plans to meet performance targets
- Conduct field trials and analyse production data
- Develop and implement methods to improve crop growth and yield
- Liaise with packhouses, marketing, and compliance teams for harvest planning
- Ensure crops meet export market standards and requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in yield, quality, and efficiency
- Research best practices for planting, spraying, irrigation, and harvesting
- Oversee harvesting, storage, and transport coordination
- Monitor crop performance and implement corrective actions
- Compile production reports and present findings to management
- Analyse data to support decision-making and planning
Requirements
- BSc Degree or Hons in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field
- Minimum 5 years agricultural experience, preferably in research, development, and team leadership
- Knowledge of plant physiology, IPM, strategic modelling, and continuous improvement
- Experience with citrus and subtropical fruit (sugarcane advantageous)
- Strong leadership, planning, and organisational skills
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Computer literate (MS Office, Outlook)
