About the Role
A leading company in the industrial services and construction sector is seeking an experienced HR Manager / HR Assistant to join their team in Nelspruit. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and independent individual who can take ownership of the HR function, particularly managing fortnightly wages for a large workforce, while also introducing new systems, structures, and efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and process fortnightly payroll for approximately 220 employees
- Oversee and improve HR systems, processes, and structures across multiple sites
- Collaborate with site-based HR administrators and provide centralised support
- Ensure accurate data integration between HR and accounting systems
- Identify opportunities to reduce reliance on outsourced HR functions
- Maintain compliance with relevant labour legislation and internal policies
- Act as the primary point of contact for payroll and HR-related queries
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the HR function
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or related field
- Proven experience in payroll administration (high-volume advantageous)
- Experience working with HR and payroll systems (e.g. ESS, Sage, Pastel or similar)
- Strong understanding of HR processes and labour legislation
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the role
- Strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-driven mindset
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to start immediately or within a short notice period
