About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Agricultural/Horticultural Extension Officer to join our team in Phalaborwa. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with commercial agribusinesses growing and processing edible nightshades, such as tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, chillies, and potatoes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conclude seasonal requirements with Agric Mngr/plan seasons/cultivars/ volumes/ preparation/planting based on orders/historic sales/consult with nurseries on seedlings.
- Report progress on farmer recruitment/production/complaints to Agric Manager.
- Organise grower meetings/study groups/share operational info/tech advice/compliance updates with farmers.
- Advise growers on land preparation/fertilizer/ chemical spray programs/planting/ irrigation/ harvesting/packaging/transport.
- Promote compliance to company Growers Manual/ certification standards.
- Schedule/conduct farm visits/provide technical guidance/monitor/document crop progress/ensure growers follow technical/safety standards.
- Handle grower concerns/complaints/enquiries/report weekly to Agric Manager.
