About the Role
A well-established attorneys firm based in Pietermaritzburg is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate must possess strong administrative abilities, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage and drive daily financial processes within a professional legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, journals, and trial balances
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including supplier and customer reconciliations
- Process payroll and leave administration while ensuring compliance with SARS, UIF, and PAYE regulations
- Manage VAT, EMP201, and other statutory submissions
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies
- Maintain accurate records for trust accounts in line with LPC and legal industry regulations
- Ensure compliance with POPIA, the Companies Act, and other relevant legislation
- Prepare and process payovers accurately and timeously in line with financial and regulatory requirements
- Attend to related financial queries and follow-ups as required
- Perform additional duties in line with operational requirements
Requirements
- Proven bookkeeping experience, preferably within a legal or professional services environment
- Strong administration and process management skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail
