About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper/Accountant to join our team in Roodepoort. As a key member of our accounting services department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality financial management and support to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and maintain accurate accounting records for multiple clients up to trial balance
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Perform bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions across various client portfolios
- Process payroll for multiple clients, including payslips and reports
- Compute PAYE, UIF, and SDL and ensure accurate and timely submission to SARS
- Prepare and submit VAT returns to SARS in compliance with deadlines
- Ensure compliance with South African tax legislation and accounting standards
- Liaise with clients to obtain necessary financial information and provide support/advice
- Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor queries where required
- Maintain proper filing systems and ensure data integrity across accounting platforms
- Handle multiple client deadlines and prioritize workload effectively
Requirements
- Certificate/Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 35 years experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role (preferably within an accounting firm or client services environment)
- Solid experience processing accounts to trial balance
- Proven experience preparing management accounts
- Experience with payroll processing and statutory submissions
- Working knowledge of SARS eFiling (VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL submissions)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Pastel)
- Strong understanding of VAT and payroll tax regulations in South Africa
- Ability to manage multiple clients and meet strict deadlines
