About the Role
Our client, an award-winning regulated financial services group, is seeking a seasoned Legal Council (in-house) to join their team in Sandton. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice and support to drive business objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, interpret, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and legal documents.
- Provide clear, technically sound legal opinions on corporate and commercial law.
- Monitor and analyse legislative and regulatory developments to advise the business on potential impacts.
- Research and report on complex or novel legal issues affecting operations, clients, or strategic initiatives.
- Conduct legal and regulatory analysis for operational projects, client engagements, and internal initiatives.
- Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Advise on data privacy and protection matters, interpreting new and evolving data-related legislation.
- Maintain and manage legal documentation and case files with precision and confidentiality.
- Assist in designing and delivering internal compliance training programs.
- Act as a legal liaison and liaise with external counsel, regulators, public authorities, and government bodies on related issues and disputes.
Requirements
- An applicable degree in law; admission as an attorney, or an equivalent professional legal qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a legal counsel, compliance, or advisory role, ideally within a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong, demonstrable experience in legal drafting, including preparing, reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating complex commercial and corporate agreements.
