The Role: As the Accountant , you will play a key role in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting management with strategic insights. Youll work closely with operations, logistics, and sales teams gaining a holistic view of the business from orchard to shelf. Key Responsibilities: Manage the full accounting function (cashbook, creditors, debtors, general ledger, and reconciliations). Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts. Support year-end audits and liaise with External Auditors. Maintain accurate stock and cost records related to fresh produce. Assist with financial analysis to support operational decision-making. Ensure compliance with statutory and tax requirements (VAT, PAYE, etc.). Continuously improve accounting processes and internal controls. Requirements: Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles (essential). BCom Accounting or a related qualification. Minimum 24 years post-article experience (agriculture, FMCG, or manufacturing environment preferred). Strong Excel and accounting system skills (Sage, Xero, or similar). Knowledge of costing and stock control in a production or trading environment is an advantage. Duties responsibilities: Maintain accurate accounting records for all entities on Xero. Process and reconcile all transactions: invoices, payments, journals, and intercompany transfers. Perform monthly bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations. Prepare monthly management accounts, trial balances, and supporting schedules Prepare and submit VAT201 returns bi-monthly via SARS eFiling. Ensure all reconciliations support VAT submissions and financial records. Assist with PAYE, provisional tax, and other SARS compliance tasks. Prepare draft Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in line with IFRS for SMEs. Liaise with external accountants and auditors during annual reviews. Ensure all entities are audit-ready and compliant throughout the year Maintain up-to-date records for all entities (registration details, VAT numbers, compliance calendars). Standardise financial processes and chart of accounts across entities. Monitor cash flow and assist management with forecasting and payment planning. Act as the main point of contact between management, external accountants, and SARS. Requirements: BCom Accounting / Financial Management or equivalent qualification 36 years accounting experience, ideally across multiple entities or group structures. Proficient in Xero Accounting Software (required) Strong working knowledge of VAT, management accounts, and AFS preparation Familiarity with CIPC and SARS eFiling processes. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Experience with CaseWare or similar AFS software (advantageous). Understanding of IFRS for SMEs and South African compliance standards.
