About the Role
We are seeking a talented and passionate Pastry Junior Sous Chef to join our prestigious private game reserve located in the heart of the Sabi Sands. As a key member of our luxury hospitality team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional 5-star standards in our pastry kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily operations of the pastry kitchen in line with 5-star luxury standards
- Maintain fridges, stores, and all pastry areas to the highest hygiene and stock rotation standards
- Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth daily operations
- Correctly use, maintain, and care for all pastry kitchen equipment
- Accurately and timeously order ingredients required for the section
- Consistently produce pastry items according to established recipes and standards
- Contribute to training and development of junior kitchen team members
- Provide clear and effective shift handovers to ensure operational continuity
- Support sustainability initiatives and eco-friendly operational practices
- Assist across other kitchen areas when required as part of a multi-skilled team approach
Requirements
- Senior High School/Secondary School qualification
- Minimum 4 years experience in a medium-sized pastry kitchen
- Formal 3-year chef qualification essential
- Strong understanding of kitchen procedures, timing, and planning
- Creative flair with the ability to develop and implement new pastry concepts and menus
- Ability to train, guide, and support junior staff, with basic understanding of labour practices
- Knowledge of safety procedures and firefighting equipment
Qualifications
Formal 3-year chef qualification is essential for this role.
