About the Role
Communicate Finance is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team in the Western Cape region. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and maintaining robust data pipelines, building and optimizing databases and data warehouses, and deploying AI/ML models for forecasting and optimization. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-volume, high-frequency datasets and support financial and technical modelling for renewable energy and efficiency investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and maintaining robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to ingest data from APIs, IoT meters, SCADA systems, and financial platforms
- Building and optimizing databases and data warehouses for high volume, high frequency datasets
- Creating APIs and integrations that automate data flow and boost operational efficiency
- Applying data quality checks, anomaly detection, and reconciliation routines to keep everything accurate and reliable
- Deploying AI/ML models for forecasting, anomaly detection, and optimization
- Supporting financial and technical modelling for renewable energy and efficiency investments
Requirements
- Minimum 2-5 years experience in Data Engineer, Software Development, and Applied Analytics
- Strong Python programming skills
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
- API development skills
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS)
- Familiarity with DevOps / MLOps pipelines, version control, and automated deployment
- Experience with Power BI
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related qualification
