About the Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary heavy equipment design engineering team to design and develop new and innovative products to solve problems faced by customers. This includes utilizing computer-aided software, specifically Solidworks, to create basic 3D layout, drawings, and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for underground mobile mining equipment using software tools such as Solidworks or Autodesk to create 3D layouts, drawings and schematics of parts, assemblies and technical renderings
- Simulate systems using software tools such as Solidworks, Autodesk to optimize the performance, reliability and safety of products.
- Create and modify mechanical design using CAD-based tools.
- Mechanical System Design: Designs mechanical systems for underground mobile mining equipment using Mechanical techniques and models. Can simulate mechanical systems using software tools such as SolidWorks or Ansys. Competent in selecting appropriate components and materials and is able to optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Mechanical System Implementation: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies and can troubleshoot mechanical system issues independently. Familiar with industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems for underground mining equipment application.
- System Integration: Has a good understanding of the integration of mechanical systems used in underground mining equipment and a strong understanding of the communication protocols used to connect mechanical system components and can identify and diagnose basic integration issues. Can perform routine maintenance and calibration tasks on integrated mechanical systems.
- System Testing and Validation: Able to understand the advanced concepts of mechanical systems used in underground mining equipment and can identify and define testing criteria and validation methods based on industry standards. Can perform more complex tests and troubleshoot system issues independently.
- Troubleshooting: In-depth knowledge of the mechanical systems used in underground mining equipment and can identify and resolve issues with these systems using diagnostic tools and techniques. Can troubleshoot complex issues with mechanical systems.
- Documentation: Able to create documentation including engineering calculations, FEA Reports, CFD Reports, ECN’s, etc. for more complex mechanical systems with minimal guidance and incorporates feedback to revise and improve document quality. Demonstrates a solid understanding of Mechanical system design and documentation, including knowledge of industry standards and best practices. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc…)
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and standards for complex mechanical systems, navigating legal and regulatory landscapes effectively.
- Project Management: Can manage well defined projects with guidance and supervision and assumes responsibility for small, specific, and straightforward components of larger projects involving coordination with others. Can identify resources needed to complete a small-scale project
Requirements
- BS Engineering or C.EngTech
- 2 5 Years of experience in similar role
- The incumbent may be required to travel periodically, occasionally to remote locations.
- Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools.
- Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of material selection, manufacturing processes and cost considerations
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems for underground mining equipment.
