About the Role

Join a dynamic finance team where you’ll play a key role as the Accountant in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting processes, and contributing to efficient accounting operations. Work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering meaningful and high-quality financial support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting & General Finance: Maintain accurate financial records up to trial balance.
  • Process staff-related expenses, including loans, repayments, and deductions.
  • Manage and balance intercompany debtors, creditors, and loan accounts monthly.
  • Process monthly recurring invoices and journals (e.g., management fees, bonus provisions).
  • Payments & Treasury: Prepare, load, and verify bi-weekly payment runs. Ensure timely salary payments via online banking platforms. Coordinate end-to-end credit card payment processing.
  • Manage cash flow between accounts to optimise interest returns.
  • Commissions & Tax (SARS): Prepare, finalise, and distribute commission schedules for payroll. Submit EMP201 returns accurately and on time. Calculate and submit VAT201 returns for the group.
  • Support EMP501 submissions alongside HR. Complete and submit dividend tax declarations timeously.
  • Reporting & Audit: Provide accurate, timely communication of business unit results. Compile and distribute monthly reporting packs. Assist in preparing audit files and manage audit queries.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of IFRS and GAAP.
  • Advantageous: Income tax and VAT law experience.
  • High accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise, stay organised, and perform under pressure.
  • Deadline-driven, professional, patient, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Accountant or in a similar role. Experience with intercompany transactions is essential. Matric/Grade 12 with Maths and Accounting. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (SAIPA articles advantageous).

Job Description

Our client, a well-established financial services company, is seeking to appoint an Accountant to join their finance team based in Bellville, Western Cape. This is a hands-on, analytical role suited to a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys working with large data sets, systems, and operational finance processes within a structured, regulated environment. About the role: This role sits across core finance and premium collections, with a strong emphasis on premium income, reconciliations, and data management. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial and premium data, while also supporting month-end processes, working papers, and financial reporting. The role offers exposure to insurance accounting, IFRS, and financial systems, with the opportunity to grow in responsibility as the finance function evolves. What you will be doing: Processing and reviewing daily accounting entries related to premium income Working extensively with large data sets, beyond Excel, using tools such as Microsoft Access and/or SQL Reconciling premium income, collections, rejections, and suspense accounts Posting journals and maintaining accurate general ledger records Assisting with month-end and year-end close processes Preparing supporting schedules and working papers for financial reporting Supporting audit processes and responding to auditor queries Assisting with VAT, tax, and regulatory reporting Preparing variance analysis, management reports, and basic dashboards Who we are looking for: BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles (SAICA preferred) 1-2 years’ post-articles experience in financial services or insurance advantageous Strong understanding of IFRS fundamentals; exposure to IFRS 16 and IFRS 17 beneficial Advanced Excel skills; Microsoft Access and/or SQL experience highly advantageous Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail Systems-oriented, proactive, and eager to continuously learn and improve Comfortable working in a fully office-based environment Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
