About the Role

Our client, an established company within the financial sector, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong planning and organising abilities to grow their career within a reputable organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement and suppliers: Review primary source documents; Ensure adherence to Company’s policies, procedures, budget limits, and Levels of Authority regarding goods and services procured; Complete “checks” on completeness of supporting documentation maintained; Monitor supplier payment terms and enforce them.
  • General accounting records and reconciliations: Review cash books and bank reconciliations; Review supplier reconciliations; Review fixed asset registers; Process non-routine/complex journal entries and review journal entries posted by bookkeeper; Prepare balance sheet reconciliation schedules for account balances and review schedules prepared by bookkeeper to ensure balance sheet is appropriately reconciled.
  • Management information: Prepare accurate management accounts, including update of forecasts, monthly cash flow, and all supporting schedules timeously; Prepare an accurate budget, including the update of forecasts and all supporting schedules timeously; Maintain all other management information requested by executive management team.
  • Sales function: Prepare calculations for revenue generated (including supporting documentation); Perform checks on inputs used for system-generated revenue calculations to approved sources (agreements etc); Collect outstanding amounts due from customers; Update and maintain summaries of Assets Under including movements.
  • Treasury and financial soundness: Review functions performed by bookkeeper; Take ownership of validity, accuracy, and completeness of weekly and long-term cash flow preparation in line with required timelines; Prepare calculations to monitor financial soundness requirements for current and future periods (liquidity, cash holdings, CAR & solvency).
  • Taxation: Prepare VAT reconciliation and working papers including reasonability of VAT declared; Maintain reconciliation of balances owing to/by SARS for all balances due; Prepare tax computation for monthly reporting and annual financial statements; Ensure valid tax clearance is maintained at all times.
  • Audit and year-end: Provide information to auditors and Group management timeously; Preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Budgets: Preparation of yearly budgets for allocated entities; Assist in preparation of support area budgets.

Accounting Degree (BCom or BCompt (Acc)); Completed articles and 3 years experience in accounting function or; 10 year experience in accounting Pension fund accounting experience beneficial.
