South Africa: Senior Materials Technician

Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Materials Technician will be responsible for ensuring the quality of materials used in construction projects, while also maintaining effective relationships with contractors and stakeholders. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory quality and auditing procedures, as well as excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with the Company’s quality management procedures
  • Supervise and coordinate all materials testing activities
  • Assess laboratory test results
  • Visual assessment of construction process
  • Visual inspection of completed elements
  • Ensure the correct use of materials
  • Provide reliable test results to AREs (Accredited Register of Engineers)
  • Liaise with the Contractor regarding construction process issues, such as compaction problems
  • Comment on and make recommendations with regards to mix designs
  • Evaluate and report on mix designs
  • Maintain an effective up-to-date site diary
  • Compile monthly reports
  • Report results and final assessment of completed work
  • Do monthly audits as required by the ARE/RE
  • Record as-built data

Requirements

  • At least a Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
  • National Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Senior Materials Technician is essential
  • Knowledge of SANS 17025 (Quality Management Systems)
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality and auditing procedures
  • Knowledge of SANS 3001, SANRAL M2 manual and other relevant testing documents
  • SABITA Manual 35

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Materials Technician to join our team. As a key member of our quality control team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all materials used in our construction projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
