About the Role
We are seeking a fully registered Safety Officer to join a wind farm construction project on a 2 to 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for enforcing health and safety compliance across all site activities, including turbine installation, civil works, and electrical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce site-specific Health & Safety Management Plans
- Conduct risk assessments related to wind farm activities (working at heights, lifting operations, electrical works)
- Monitor compliance with OHSA, construction regulations, and environmental requirements
- Perform daily site inspections, audits, and safety walkabouts
- Oversee safe execution of high-risk activities (crane lifts, turbine erection, confined spaces)
- Facilitate toolbox talks, inductions, and ongoing safety training
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and compile detailed reports
- Ensure proper use of PPE and fall protection systems
- Maintain all safety documentation and ensure audit readiness
- Liaise with contractors, engineers, and site management on safety matters
Requirements
- Valid SACPCMP registration as a Safety Officer (non-negotiable)
- National Diploma or relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
- Minimum 35 years experience in construction safety (renewable energy or infrastructure preferred)
- Strong knowledge of OHSA and Construction Regulations
- Experience working on large-scale or multi-contractor sites
- Excellent communication, leadership, and reporting skills
