Job Description
To monitor and prevent fire hazards during hot work activities, ensuring a safe working environment and immediate response to fire risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor all hot work activities (welding, cutting, grinding).
- Identify fire hazards and ensure preventative measures are in place.
- Maintain constant surveillance of work areas during and after hot work operations.
- Operate fire extinguishing equipment when required.
- Conduct atmospheric testing using gas monitoring equipment.
- Ensure work areas are free from flammable materials before work begins.
- Enforce compliance with safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Monitor confined space and working at heights activities when applicable.
- Raise alarms and initiate emergency procedures in case of fire.
- Maintain fire watch logs and incident reports.
- Ensure fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment are available and functional.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- Basic Firefighting Certificate.
- Training in Gas Monitoring Equipment.
- Working at Heights Certification.
- Confined Space Training.
Experience
- Minimum 2 – 3 years experience in a safety or fire watch role in industrial, mining, or construction environments.
- Experience with hot work environments is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong awareness of fire risks and prevention methods.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Good observation and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Working Conditions
