Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup and Operation (Milling & Turning)
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to programme and set up CNC machines
- Set up and operate CNC milling and turning machines safely and efficiently
- Verify tool/work offsets and datum positions before machining
- Conduct dry runs for new or updated programmes
- Select appropriate workholding methods (vices, chucks, fixtures, etc.)
- Ensure alignment, concentricity, and squareness within tolerances
- Monitor machining processes and adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, and offsets as needed
- Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspections
- Maintain machine cleanliness, coolant systems, and chip removal
- Report machine issues, deviations, or collisions promptly
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Programming, CAD/CAM & Tooling
- Create and optimise CNC programmes using CAM software (Fusion 360 or similar)
- Generate toolpaths for milling and turning, including complex components
- Transfer and edit programmes on machine controls (e.g. HAAS or similar)
- Select and set tooling, ensuring correct offsets and tolerances
- Manage tool libraries, tool life, and wear monitoring
- Maintain structured tooling setups aligned with setup sheets
- Perform basic reverse engineering where required
Quality Control
- Perform precision measurements using appropriate instruments
- Ensure components meet required tolerances and quality standards
- Identify and correct deviations early
- Maintain inspection records where required
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Ensure job requirements and technical information are complete before production
- Accurately complete job cards (time, materials, consumables, notes)
- Assist with sourcing materials and tooling when needed
- Communicate progress, lead times, and technical updates
- Identify process improvements and support quoting with technical input
General, Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
- Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with preventative upkeep
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and PPE requirements
- Maintain high housekeeping standards
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Stay updated with CNC technologies and machining strategies
- Work overtime or shifts as required
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- Proven experience in CNC milling and turning
- Experience with CNC milling machines (e.g. HAAS VF2 or similar)
- Experience with CNC turning centres (e.g. DMG MORI CLX 450 or similar)
- Strong CAD/CAM programming experience (Fusion 360 or similar)
