Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Winemaker to join our team at a wine estate in Stellenbosch I Brackenfell. As a key support to the Head Winemaker, you will be responsible for managing daily cellar operations, ensuring quality control, and maintaining equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing grape crushing, pressing, pumping, and tank management.
  • Sampling grapes for maturity, conducting lab tests on wine, and monitoring fermentation.
  • Assisting in blending, bottling, and managing inventory.
  • Maintaining detailed records of product movements, chemical additions, and equipment maintenance.
  • Managing cellar staff and assisting with, or leading, cellar tours and wine tastings.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 A BSc in Agriculture (Oenology/Viticulture) or a Diploma in Cellar Technology
  • Previous experience (2–5 years) in a winery environment is crucial, often including harvest experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and industry-specific software
