About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Pretoria, South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems and structures for armoured vehicles, working closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with defence standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and structures for armoured vehicles
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Design and integrate armour solutions, chassis, suspension, and vehicle subsystems
- Perform mechanical calculations (strength, fatigue, vibration, and weight optimisation)
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities
- Liaise with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams
- Ensure that designs comply with defence standards, safety, and customer requirements
- Participate in design reviews and configuration control
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Proven mechanical design experience in defence, automotive, or heavy engineering
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, and Inventor)
- Strong understanding of structural design and manufacturing processes
- Ability to work with confidential and controlled information
