About the Role
Kendrick Recruitment is searching for a hands-on, technically skilled Maintenance Manager for a well-established luxury safari lodge set deep within the iconic Waterberg wilderness, Limpopo – a malaria-free Big 5 reserve just two hours from Johannesburg. Part of a well-known and respected hospitality group with over 30 years in the industry, this is a large, well-appointed property with 47 rooms, multiple dining venues, a spa, swimming pools, tennis courts and a broad range of guest facilities – all of which need to be kept in exceptional condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of all lodge facilities, rooms, public areas, kitchens and staff spaces
- Plan, supervise and execute repairs, renovations and construction projects
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance schedules across all departments
- Manage departmental budget, expenses and maintenance activity logs
- Coordinate with all lodge departments to address maintenance needs with minimal disruption to guest experience
- Respond swiftly to emergency maintenance situations including power outages and system failures
- Manage warranties, assets and environmental management plans
- Ensure responsible waste management and eco-friendly operational practices
- Lead, supervise, train and develop the Maintenance Technicians and Handymen team
- Respond professionally to guest maintenance requests, upholding the lodge’s service standards
- Act as Duty Manager when rostered
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior maintenance management role, within a lodge or hotel environment
- Technical expertise across at least two or more of the following: electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, welding and refrigeration/air-conditioning systems
- Solid knowledge of OHS legislation and lodge safety compliance
- Experience managing contractors and service providers
- Ability to implement and manage preventative maintenance programmes
- Proficient in MS Office
- Knowledge of fire, life safety and environmental/ecological best practices
- Valid South African driver’s license
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, evenings and public holidays
