Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor Industry: Hospitality (Hotel / Lodge / Resort) Location: South Africa Reports To: Operations Manager / General Manager Job Purpose To oversee and coordinate all maintenance activities to ensure the property, facilities, and equipment are maintained to the highest standards, ensuring guest satisfaction, safety, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Maintenance Operations Supervise daily maintenance tasks across the property (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting). Conduct routine inspections of buildings, equipment, and systems. Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are implemented and adhered to. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdowns. Team Management Supervise and lead maintenance staff, artisans, and external contractors. Allocate tasks and monitor performance and productivity. Provide on-the-job training and ensure skills development. Enforce discipline and adherence to company policies. Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with South African health & safety regulations (OHS Act). Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments. Ensure proper use of PPE and safe working practices. Maintain safety records and incident reports. Budget & Cost Control Assist in preparing maintenance budgets. Monitor expenses and control costs effectively. Source quotes and liaise with suppliers and contractors. Ensure cost-effective procurement of materials. Asset & Inventory Management Maintain asset registers for equipment and tools. Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and spare parts. Ensure proper storage and control of tools and equipment. Guest Experience Support Ensure all guest areas are fully functional and aesthetically maintained. Minimize disruptions to guests during maintenance work. Address guest maintenance complaints promptly and professionally. Administration & Reporting Maintain maintenance logs and records. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Track job cards and completion timelines. Ensure compliance documentation is up to date. Minimum Requirements Education Grade 12 (Matric) Trade Test Certificate (Electrical / Plumbing / Mechanical preferred) Additional certifications in maintenance or facilities management advantageous Experience 35 years experience in a maintenance role within hospitality At least 2 years in a supervisory or team leader role Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge (electrical, plumbing, general building maintenance) Leadership and team management skills Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability Time management and organizational skills Good communication skills Basic computer literacy (MS Office, maintenance systems) Attention to detail and high standards Personal Attributes Hands-on and proactive approach Ability to work under pressure Strong work ethic and reliability Customer service orientation Flexibility to work weekends, shifts, and standby duties Working Conditions On-site role within a hotel, lodge, or resort May require after-hours standby for emergencies Exposure to outdoor environments (especially in lodges/game reserves) Remuneration (South Africa Guideline)
