About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Head Guide to lead our guiding team at Craven Cottage CC in the Waterberg region. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing field operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and promoting conservation and environmental education practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the guiding team to ensure exceptional field operations
  • Supervise walking safaris, game drives, and other wildlife experiences while maintaining safety and adherence to lodge protocols
  • Uphold and enforce operational standards across all guiding activities
  • Monitor team performance and provide constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
  • Interact with guests professionally, ensuring a personalized and memorable safari experience
  • Maintain all guiding equipment and vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards
  • Collaborate with management to ensure seamless communication between lodge operations and field teams
  • Promote conservation, environmental education, and responsible tourism practices to guests and staff
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, suppliers, and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including firearm handling, permits, and wildlife regulations

Requirements

Minimum FGASA Level 2 (NQF 4) or equivalent guiding qualification

Valid Trails Guide qualification

Proven experience as a Head Guide or Safari Manager

Strong leadership and team management skills

Experience guiding in Big 5 reserves and luxury 5-star lodges

Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP)

Current Wilderness First Aid certification

Valid Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) qualification

SAPS business competency for rifle use

Excellent organisational and planning skills

Mature, professional, and responsible demeanour, with the ability to mentor and inspire a guiding team
