About the Role
Kendrick Recruitment is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef for a luxury hotel in Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate culinary professional to join a high-performing kitchen team within a premium hospitality environment, supporting the delivery of world-class dining experiences in Cape Town.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support daily kitchen operations in line with senior management direction
- Assist with planning, organising, and coordinating kitchen workflows and service delivery
- Ensure high standards of food preparation, presentation, and timing at all times
- Prepare and cook dishes to required standards, assisting across all sections when needed
- Support menu planning and recipe development alongside senior chefs
- Train, mentor, and support junior kitchen staff
- Ensure compliance with strict health, safety, and hygiene standards
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and monitoring kitchen supplies
- Manage stock rotation and minimise food wastage
- Assist with stock takes and monitor kitchen costs
- Support recipe management, updates, and staff training on new dishes
- Ensure all kitchen areas are clean, organised, and properly maintained
- Assist with staff performance management and operational discipline where required
- Report equipment faults or hazards and support maintenance
- Handle general kitchen administration and operational duties as required
Requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Professional Cookery
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar kitchen role
- Strong culinary skills with excellent attention to detail
- Solid understanding of kitchen operations, stock control, and food costing
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership qualities with a hands-on approach
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
