About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Plant Manager to join our client’s International Automotive component manufacturing operation based in East London. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing plant operations, managing departmental objectives, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for operations planning
  • Drive project objectives for each department
  • Monitor objective achievement by performing regular reviews
  • Conduct advance quality planning exercises by analysing customer business requirements and company business processes to meet supplier specifications and customer demands
  • Revise & approve department draft budgets as set by departmental managers
  • Monitor budget spending & initiate corrective action as required
  • Take responsibility for manufacturing activities, ensuring that the customer requirements & quality standards are met timeously & cost effectively
  • Ensure health, safety, security and plant maintenance regulations are adhered to
  • Conduct regular housekeeping audits, analysing results & implementing corrective actions as required
  • Manage & support the quality standards of the operation in line with the overall Management Systems
  • Develop & maintain quality procedures & guidelines
  • Manage & supervise department staff
  • Carrying out regular performance appraisals
  • Manage industrial relations
  • Set and ensure that operational targets are met
  • Ensure the supply of material & human resources
  • Ensure cost effective human resource & machine utilization
  • Manage production of press components and assemblies
  • Ensuring plant performance to budgets and targets using P&L and expense budgets
  • Tracking efficiency and implementing improvements
  • Managing staff and aligning organizational structure
  • Responsible for logistics, production, maintenance, finance, projects, HR, quality and environmental standards and ratings
  • Managing the customer and supplier relationships
  • Reporting to Executives and directors on all aspects of the plants performance and KPI’s
  • Planning and recruitment of structure and staff – Developing of process flows for production
  • Maintaining Customer relationship and progress reporting
  • Review of all technical designs, specifications for buildings, equipment and tooling

Requirements

  • Degree / BTech in Mechanical Engineering
  • Diploma in Production Manager
  • 10 years sound plant management skills in a large unionized environment
