Location: Graaff Reinet, Eastern Cape
Eligibility: Candidates must be legally eligible to work in South Africa.
Role Overview: Hotel Manager
The Hotel Manager will oversee the hotel’s full operational function, ensuring that The Drostdy’s reputation for boutique luxury, personalised guest service and operational excellence is upheld at all times. This role suits a hands on leader with strong operational oversight, excellent guest service standards and the ability to drive financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Operations
– Provide daily leadership across all hotel departments
– Guide and support Heads of Department to achieve service and business objectives
– Maintain luxury service standards and ensure SOPs are consistently applied
– Anticipate operational challenges and implement proactive solutions
– Serve as Acting General Manager when required
Guest Experience and Quality
– Ensure warm, personalised and high touch guest experiences
– Engage with guests, VIPs and returning clientele
– Respond to guest feedback and lead service recovery
– Continuously improve guest satisfaction and service quality
Financial Management
– Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, forecasting and reporting
– Monitor departmental performance and implement corrective actions
– Maximise room revenue, yield and upselling opportunities
– Implement effective cost control measures
Human Resources and Leadership
– Lead, coach and mentor all Heads of Department
– Conduct performance reviews and succession planning
– Build a culture of teamwork, accountability and excellence
– Ensure compliance with labour legislation and staff well being
Compliance and Risk
– Ensure compliance with OHSA, HACCP, food safety and hospitality legislation
– Maintain safety files, licences and audit readiness
Facilities and Maintenance
– Oversee preventative maintenance and property upkeep
– Ensure guest areas meet boutique luxury standards of presentation and safety
– Support refurbishments, upgrades and capital projects
Qualifications and Experience
– Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management preferred
– Seven to ten years hospitality experience with at least three years in a senior management role
– Strong background in boutique hotels, luxury properties or high end hospitality environments
– Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
– Experience with Opera, Micros or similar PMS or POS systems
– Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays
