About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Animal Caretaker to join our team at Craven Cottage CC in the Eastern Cape region. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of our animals, as well as providing educational talks and guided tours to guests and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Animal husbandry with a hands-off approach for rehabilitating and releasing animals
- Cleaning of enclosures, feeding equipment, and education centre
- Conducting educational talks and guided tours for guests and volunteers
- Accurately following written and verbal animal care instructions and treatment plans
- Ensuring adherence to all safety, welfare, and organisational protocols
- Demonstrating strong time management and organisational skills
- Monitoring animal behaviour and reporting concerns to senior staff or management
Requirements
- Grade 11 or 12
- Diploma/short course in animal studies or related field (advantageous)
- Minimum of 1 year work experience in wildlife rehabilitation and/or husbandry
- Proficiency in English (isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans (advantageous))
- Demonstrated passion for wildlife and environmental education
- Willingness and ability to work a rostered schedule, including day and night shifts
- Valid driver’s licence with a confident driving ability to transport animals/staff
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with public speaking and engaging diverse audiences
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks
- Sound knowledge and understanding of wildlife behaviour and welfare principles
