About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist to join our team at Clinix Naledi-Nkanyezi Private Hospital (Sebokeng). As a pharmacist, you will be responsible for dispensing and issuing drugs, controlling and monitoring the storage of all medicines in Pharmacy and the hospital, and ensuring that quality pharmaceutical services are delivered. You will also be expected to promote medication safety and facilitate medication information to patients and departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safety of patients by providing advice on the appropriate selection, dosage and drug interaction, with due consideration to potential side effects and therapeutic effects of medication.
- Record medication per legislative requirements
- Validate the medical prescription and ensure the availability of funds (for medical aid patients)
- Dispense medication according to Good Pharmacy Practice guidelines and advise patient on the use of generic medicine preparations
- Assume the role of custodian for the management of schedule 6 drugs per legislation
- Proactively communicate with Nursing staff as it relates to issues identified on prescriptions
- Ensure the correct charging for in-patients and ensure medication is timeously issued
- Supervise the Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant on mixing and compounding of medication
- Ensure accurate filing of prescriptions or patient records where required
- Capture prescription returns / credits from the wards
- Promote medication safety and facilitate medication information to all patients and departments
- Ensure proper medication waste management protocols are followed
Requirements
- Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist
- Computer proficiency in SAP and Unisolve
- 1 to 2 years experience in a retail pharmacy or a private hospital setting
