About the Role
Helderberg Personnel is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering successful projects in mining, industrial, or heavy engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Develop and review detailed electrical designs, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.
- Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, bill of quantities, and tender documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and CAD Operators.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure engineering quality and accuracy.
- Support project scoping, budgeting, tender evaluations, and contract administration.
- Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support when required.
Technical Responsibilities
- Medium and low-voltage electrical system design.
- MCC design and review in accordance with IEC 61439 standards.
- Substation and transformer design.
- Electrical equipment selection and specification.
- Cable sizing, routing, and cable racking design.
- Lighting and small power design.
- Protection and control system design.
- PLC and SCADA system integration.
- Power distribution and industrial plant electrical design.
- Compliance with legal electrical and safety requirements.
Minimum Requirements
### Qualifications
- BEng or BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng. will be highly advantageous.
### Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in electrical engineering design and project execution.
- Proven experience within mining, industrial, or heavy engineering environments.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Strong exposure to industrial plant design and electrical infrastructure projects.
### Knowledge and Skills
- Sound knowledge of SANS standards and international electrical engineering standards.
- Thorough understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Strong technical and commercial awareness.
- Proficiency in electrical engineering design software.
- Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently while leading project teams.
