Job Description

This role is suited to a technically strong finance professional with solid experience in both fund accounting and general ledger (GL) control, who is confident working across complex investment structures, reconciliations, and financial reporting cycles.

You will take ownership of end-to-end fund accounting processes, ensuring the integrity of financial records, accuracy of Net Asset Values (NAVs), and completeness of the general ledger through to trial balance. The role also plays a key part in supporting investor reporting, audits, compliance, and broader financial control functions.

The successful candidate will work closely with finance leadership, investment teams, auditors, and external service providers, contributing to the continuous improvement of reporting accuracy, controls, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full fund accounting and month-end close process.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger through to trial balance for investment and fund entities.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and board reporting packs.
  • Calculate, review, and validate Net Asset Values (NAVs) for investment funds.
  • Process and review complex journals, accruals, and investment-related accounting entries.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations including bank accounts, investment portfolios, cash positions, and investor balances.
  • Record and reconcile investment transactions including purchases, disposals, income, and corporate actions.
  • Prepare investor reports, capital account statements, and fund performance reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes.
  • Assist with audit preparation, external auditor queries, and financial statement support.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, internal controls, and financial governance standards.
  • Support investor onboarding, subscriptions, redemptions, and fund administration processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within reporting and reconciliations.

Job expereience and skills required:

Qualifications:

  • BCom Accounting Degree is essential.
  • BCom Honours 
  • CA(SA), CIMA, or similar professional qualification will be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Fund Accounting, Investment Accounting, Private Equity, or Investment Administration.
  • Strong experience in general ledger (GL) accounting and month-end close processes.
  • Proven experience performing reconciliations across bank, investment, and GL accounts.
  • Experience calculating and reviewing Net Asset Values (NAVs).
  • Strong exposure to investor reporting and fund reporting cycles.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and financial statements.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
  • Exposure to private equity, asset management, or investment structures will be highly advantageous.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
  • Strong experience with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Pastel or similar).
  • Experience with fund accounting systems or investment platforms advantageous.
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical, and financial control skills.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and financial accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent understanding of general ledger integrity and reconciliations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict month-end deadlines.
