Must have experience in Polishing Metal to acquire different finishes This combined role is essential for supporting the overall production workflow while specializing in the critical final finishing of metal components. The General Laborer & Metal Polisher performs physical general labor tasks, assisting skilled trades, and is specifically responsible for grinding, sanding, and polishing metal parts to meet aesthetic and quality specifications. Primary Responsibilities I. Metal Polishing and Finishing (Specialized) Grinding & Deburring: Operate hand-held and stationary grinders, sanders, and other tools to remove weld spatter, burrs, sharp edges, and excess material from fabricated metal parts (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, brass). Surface Refinement: Progressively use different abrasive media and polishing compounds (e.g., buffing wheels, rouges) to smooth and polish metal surfaces to achieve required finishes (e.g., matte, brushed, mirror/high-luster). Quality Inspection: Visually inspect all finished parts for defects, ensuring surfaces are flawless, consistent, and meet precise aesthetic and dimensional requirements specified in blueprints or work orders. Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and properly store all polishing tools, equipment, and workstations, ensuring optimal functionality and a high standard of cleanliness to prevent cross-contamination of finishes. II. General Labor and Shop Support Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods using appropriate equipment (pallet jacks, trolleys, hoists) while ensuring safe handling and preventing damage to finished surfaces. Production Assistance: Assist skilled Welders, Fabricators, and Machinists by holding, positioning, clamping, or retrieving materials and tools as needed to maintain production efficiency. Workshop Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area by sweeping, disposing of scrap metal and waste, and organising inventory and storage areas. Preparation & Packaging: Prepare finished components for the next stage, which may include cleaning, masking for painting, simple assembly, and carefully packaging polished parts to protect the finish during transit. Required Skills and Qualifications Experience: Proven experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment, with demonstrated experience or aptitude for using hand tools for grinding/sanding/polishing metal. Manual Dexterity & Detail: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and meticulous attention to detail are crucial for achieving high-quality metal finishes. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and manoeuvre objects up to 25 kg, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions with hands and arms. Safety Compliance: Strong commitment to all shop safety protocols, including the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially eye, ear, and respiratory protection. Communication: Ability to read and follow work orders and verbal instructions effectively.
