About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Associate – Interior Architecture and Design to join our architecture team in Johannesburg, working on behalf of a global experiential design studio specialising in sustainable, high-end hospitality. As part of their core values, they bring together architecture, landscape, and interiors to create immersive, place-driven destinations. Our ideal candidate will be involved in the design process, supporting clients through advisory, sourcing, and project delivery, helping bring exceptional environments to life in some of the world’s most remote and complex locations.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Project & Resource Planning: Report on project budgets, cost estimates, and risk management while strategically allocating studio staff across projects to maximize workflow efficiency.
• Concept Development & Design Direction: Conceptualize new design directions, establish design briefs from site research, and oversee all documentation and presentations to capture the client’s vision.
• Studio Leadership & Talent Management: Oversee, mentor, and evaluate multi-departmental teams, driving recruitment, onboarding, professional training, and succession planning to maintain high studio morale.
• Financial Oversight & Value Engineering: Monitor project costing and professional fee invoices, proactively value-engineering designs to remain within approved budgets while maintaining original design intent.
• Contract Administration & Procurement: Facilitate tender evaluations, assist with contract documentation, adjudicate claims, and guide the procurement department to ensure precise interpretation of technical specifications.
• Cross-Consultant Coordination: Supervise the integration and coordination of drawings, specifications, and information from all principal consultants, sub-contractors, and external vendors.
• Site Administration & Quality Control: Chair site meetings, review progress reports, and rigorously monitor quality control findings throughout the construction, production, and manufacturing phases.
• Technology & Process Optimization: Conduct research into cutting-edge design technologies, construction methodologies, and materials, while refining internal drawing standards and backup filing systems.
• Visualisation & Asset Management: Direct the design visualization process to ensure superior-quality renders, managing the production of all in-house and outsourced computer-based assets.
• Brand Ambassadorship & Close-Out: Support marketing strategies and write compelling design narratives, while ultimately overseeing the compilation of as-built drawings, warranties, and close-out manuals.
Requirements
Minimum: Master’s in architecture (MArch) or Master’s in Architectural Technology (MTech)
Registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP)
