About the Role

We are seeking a Field Guide with extensive experience in guiding in Big 5 reserves, to join our team in Johannesburg. As a Field Guide, you will be responsible for providing exceptional guest experiences, leading guided tours, and contributing to the conservation efforts of our lodges/reserves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead guided tours and provide expert knowledge on wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation
  • Engage with guests, respond to their queries, and ensure their safety and comfort
  • Participate in reserve management and conservation activities
  • Conduct tracking and animal behaviour interpretation
  • Maintain situational awareness and risk assessment in high-pressure situations
  • Perform basic vehicle checks and maintenance tasks

Requirements

  • FGASA Level 1, 2, or 3 qualification (depending on lodge requirements)
  • Full Trails Valid Driver’s License PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
  • Registered with relevant guiding authorities (CATHSSETA, NDT/DEAT)
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 or Rifle competency (SAPS) and ARH (Advanced Rifle Handling), if working in Big 5 Tracker qualifications or FGASA Trails Guide qualification
  • 13 years of experience as a Field Guide (entry-level)

Qualifications

  • Full Trails Valid Driver’s License PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
  • Registered with relevant guiding authorities (CATHSSETA, NDT/DEAT)
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 or Rifle competency (SAPS) and ARH (Advanced Rifle Handling), if working in Big 5 Tracker qualifications or FGASA Trails Guide qualification
