Job Title: Network Engineer Industry: Information & Communication Technology Type: Full-time | Remote Overview: Our international client is seeking a Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure and ICT solutions for clients. The successful candidate will focus on network setup, security, cloud integration, and IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performance systems. Strong problem-solving, technical expertise, and professional client communication are essential. Key Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and manage network infrastructure projects from initiation to completion. Setup, configure, and maintain firewalls (preferably Sophos) and network security solutions. Manage and maintain LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, switches, and VPNs. Support and maintain cloud architectures (Azure), hosted servers, and backup solutions. Monitor and optimize network performance to ensure high availability and minimal downtime. Implement and manage patching, RMM solutions, and endpoint security tools. Troubleshoot and resolve network, server, and connectivity issues efficiently. Document network configurations, policies, and IT processes. Provide professional, client-facing support and advice. Required Skills & Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in network engineering or ICT infrastructure. Relevant Bachelors degree in ICT, Computer Science, or related field. Strong knowledge of network protocols, LAN/WAN, VPNs, routers, switches, and firewalls. Experience with cloud-based networking solutions (Azure or equivalent). Familiarity with endpoint security, patch management, and RMM tools. Troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills. Review client requirements and collaborate with other IT engineers to define the optimal networking and firewalling solutions in accordance with organisational policies. Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency of current networks. Configure firewalls for usage, manage their day-to-day operations and perform regular maintenance through upgrades and patches to ensure optimal performance, maximise network efficiency and security. Configure, manage and maintain secure intra- and inter-organisational communication channels, such as VPNs and IPSec tunnels. Perform quarterly firewall health checks removing unnecessary rules, interfaces, etc. and optimising rules where possible. Assist with the installation, configuration and support of network equipment across the LAN, WLAN, WAN and SD-WAN, both wired and wireless. Participate in cross-functional troubleshooting support for internal and external clients and network fault investigations. Liaise with network service providers and vendors, ensuring service level agreements are met and organisational policies and principles adhered to. Maximise network performance through ongoing monitoring and optimisation. Ensure supporting documentation and diagrams remain up to date. Ensure all network equipment is sufficiently secured (logically and physically), so that no unauthorised access can be gained. Provide monthly reporting as required. Qualifications Matric Certification in GPON Networks (Huawei/Calix, etc.) Professional-level to Expert Cisco Certifications Degree in Networking or BSC (not essential but advantageous) ITIL Certification. Requirements / Duties Minimum 10 years of L2 and L3 networking experience. Preferably with ISP or large-scale campus-type networks Sage Exposure would be advantageous. LibreNMS knowledge is advantageous. Remote tools (RDP,Teamviewer and Anydesk). Office 365 setup and maintenance experience. Familiar with backup technologies and backup maintenance. SolarWinds suite. Knowledge and experience in ticket logging and support applications Windows Server 2008 to 2025 working knowledge, installation and configuration. Troubleshooting is a requirement. (MCSA or MCSE would be advantageous). VMware ESX working knowledge or some version of Hypervisor would be advantageous. Internet user management and Proxy management, and deployment skills. Strong fundamental networking knowledge of routing and switching. Extensive knowledge of Dot1Q trunking. Profound with link aggregation protocols such as LACP and PAGP. Arista MLAG experience. Excellent layer 2 and 3 troubleshooting skills. Strong networking design skills. Be able to draw professional physical and logical topology diagrams. The ability to draw lower and high level network designs and documentation. Strong knowledge of L3 routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP. MPLS troubleshooting and design skills are essential. Strong knowledge of Cisco and Fortinet firewalls. Strong Knowledge of all spanning-tree protocols. Switch virtualisation experience.
