Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Scent Analyst to join our team in Midrand, South Africa. As a key member of our quality control department, you will be responsible for analyzing the chemical composition of scents and fragrances using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and other analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze chemical composition of scents and fragrances using GC-MS
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GC-MS and Flame Ionisation Detector (FID)
- Interpret chromatograms, identify compounds, and understand flavour and fragrance chemistry
- Prepare and extract flavour and fragrance samples for GC-MS analysis
- Analyze chromatograms, identify and quantify volatile compounds, and interpret spectral data using spectral libraries and retention indices
- Ensure all laboratory practices adhere to safety guidelines and quality standards
- Provide analytical support for product development, quality control, and regulatory compliance
- Prepare detailed reports on analytical findings and maintain accurate records of all analyses
Requirements
- M.Sc or PhD in Chemistry
- Eight (8) years of experience in analyzing chemical composition of scents/fragrances
- Understanding of different columns used in GC-MS
- Ability to troubleshoot instrument issues and solve analytical problems
- Effective communication and report writing skills
- Ability to liaise with technical teams, Flavourists, and Perfumers
