About the Role

Unistel Medical Laboratories is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Scientist/Medical Technologist to join our team in Parow. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing specimens for human paternity testing, forensic body identification, and routine diagnostic tests, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with laboratory standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical procedures following correct SOPs.
• Handling, preparation, and processing of various specimens for human profiling, forensic body identification, and routine diagnostics.
• Excellent knowledge and skills of DNA extraction and PCR.
• Reading scientific literature and keeping up to date with new techniques and literature.
• Identifying, developing, and implementing improvement of laboratory procedures to meet the requirements of ISO9001 and ISO17025.
• Ensuring patient results are sent out within laboratory TAT.

Requirements

• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Scientist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
• B.Tech, National Diploma, BHSc, BSc, or equivalent qualification in Laboratory Technology, Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum of 12 years experience in a molecular diagnostic, genetics, or forensic laboratory environment.
