Job Description
Our client, a well-established family-owned business operating across South Africa and Zambia with approximately130 employees, is seeking an experienced HR Specialist / HR Manager.
This role is ideal for a seasoned HR generalist (10 years experience) comfortable managing the full HR function across multiple sites, including payroll, recruitment, employee relations, and performance management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full employee lifecycle: onboarding, probation, movements, and exits
- Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with South African labour legislation and relevant cross-border requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures
- End-to-end recruitment across all branches; support succession planning and talent retention
- Take ownership of payroll: manage statutory submissions, payroll queries, and compensation records
- Manage petty cash, forex payments, and assist with month-end creditor payments
- Build and maintain positive employee relations; handle disciplinary processes, grievances, and performance issues
- Identify training and development needs and coordinate initiatives
- Compile HR reports for management and use HR data to support decision-making
Requirements:
- 10 years + HR generalist experience, including payroll management
- Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across sites
- Proficiency in HR systems and MS Office
- Relevant HR qualification (BCom HR, BA HR, or similar) advantageous
- Multi-site or operational environment experience advantageous
- Exposure to cross-border HR (Africa) advantageous
