About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Hygienist/Technologist to join our team in Port Elizabeth. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting workplace surveys, assessing risks to health, and recommending remedial control methods. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake workplace surveys and evaluating environmental situations in the workplace.
- Assessing risks to health arising from many different factors, such as chemical, biological, noise, ergonomics, radiation, asbestos, thermal stressors, lighting and ventilation, etc.
- Accurately measuring and sampling levels of exposure, often through precise use of specialist equipment.
- Accurately recording facts or details from the workplace.
- Recommend remedial control methods.
- Compile data, write reports, and present reports for review and approval.
- Keep up to date with scientific and legal developments.
- Maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Requirements
- A valid drivers license and own car is a requirement.
- Registered as an Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Technologist (ROHT) with SAIOH for 2026 (Prerequisite for the position).
- Holder of a certificate in Intermediate Mine Environmental Control (Prerequisite for the position).
- Applicants should hold a valid Legal Knowledge certificate as required by the Department of Employment and Labour.
- Embedded knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations as well as the Mine Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
- Applicants should hold a valid SAIOH Ethics Certificate.
- Appropriate experience in occupational hygiene measurement techniques and sampling strategies and experience in performing various occupational hygiene surveys (i.e., illumination, noise, ergonomics assessments, ventilation, hazardous chemical agent exposure, vibration etc.).
- Monitoring and measurement experience within different types of industries and mines is essential.
