About the Role
Our client, a multi-disciplinary construction company, requires an experienced Construction Buyer to procure materials, equipment, and services in line with project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure construction materials, equipment, and services in line with project needs
- Source and negotiate with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and terms
- Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders
- Coordinate with site and project teams to ensure timely delivery of materials
- Monitor costs and support budget and cost control requirements
- Manage stock levels and track material availability and lead times
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements
- Evaluate and monitor supplier performance
- Expedite orders to prevent site delays
- Maintain accurate procurement records and reports
Requirements
- At least 5 years in a construction / engineering field
- Strong negotiation and commercial skills
- Good understanding of construction materials, plant, and services
- Cost awareness and ability to work within budgets
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Supplier sourcing and relationship-management skills
- Ability to read and understand drawings, BOQs, and specifications
- Knowledge of procurement procedures and contract requirements (e.g. GCC/FIDIC)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Qualifications
Matric National Diploma in Construction Management / Engineering or any related qualification is ideal.
