About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Executive Housekeeper to lead our housekeeping department at a busy resort property in Durban. Key Responsibilities
- Lead; supervise, and coordinate the daily operations of the housekeeping team, including room attendants, supervisors, and laundry staff.
- Ensure all guest rooms, suites, public areas, and back-of-house spaces consistently meet or exceed the resort’s high cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Recruit; train, mentor, and motivate housekeeping staff to deliver outstanding service and maintain team performance.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest units, public areas, and facilities; implement corrective actions where needed.
- Manage staff schedules, rosters, and timekeeping to ensure optimal coverage, especially during peak periods.
- Oversee the management of an outsourced housekeeping company (where applicable), while providing ongoing training, motivation, and quality control.
- Control housekeeping inventories, including cleaning supplies, linens, uniforms, and guest amenities; monitor usage and place orders within budget.
- Handle guest requests and complaints professionally, ensuring swift resolution and a positive guest experience.
- Collaborate with other departments (Front Office, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, etc.) to ensure seamless operations and address any maintenance or service issues promptly.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Prepare departmental reports, monitor costs, and contribute to continuous improvement of housekeeping procedures and standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years proven experience in a senior housekeeping role (Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper) within a hotel or resort environment.
- Strong leadership, people management, and motivational skills with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine guest-focused and positive attitude.
- Solid knowledge of housekeeping operations, cleaning standards, laundry management, and health & safety regulations.
Qualifications
- A qualification in Hospitality Management, Housekeeping Supervision, or a related field is highly advantageous.
