About the Role

The Maintenance Manager position at Nelson Mandela University’s George Campus is a critical role that requires effective management and coordination of maintenance services to align with the university’s strategic objectives and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director: George Campus Operations in developing maintenance strategies for the George Campus.
  • Assist the Director: George Campus Operations on maintenance and preventive maintenance that escalate into projects.
  • Project Management: Manage Capital Maintenance and Minor Work Projects for the George Campus.
  • Assist the Director: George Campus Operations, to compile Capital Maintenance Budgets and other project-related estimates.
  • Manage assigned project specific budgets to ensure execution of works within budget.
  • Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Requirements

Good knowledge and understanding of general maintenance procedures and requirements.

Good knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health and Environmental regulations.

Possess good leadership, management and motivational skills.

Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Be open, flexible and innovative.

Technical/professional knowledge and skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Sound knowledge of Project Management principles.

Possess sound knowledge of specifications, bills of quantities, basic contract payment protocol.

Know the procedure to effect payment for projects.

Experience in managing budgets for projects.

Has managed projects within approved budgets, time and quality specified standards.

Self-motivated and ability to work unsupervised.

Fault-finding and logical thinking skills.

Qualifications

Applicable three-year diploma qualification or equivalent.
