About the Role

Nelson Mandela University invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Geosciences, located along a dynamic coastal environment where marine, estuarine, fluvial, and aeolian systems intersect with the structural geology of the Cape Supergroup. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, develop an independent research programme, supervise postgraduate students, and participate in departmental and institutional activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and enhance teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Develop, publish, and sustain a productive research programme.
  • Supervise postgraduate students (Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral levels where applicable).
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation in geosciences education.
  • Facilitate field-based teaching in areas such as coastal processes, structural geology, and geohydrology.
  • Engage with industry, government, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental administration and academic citizenship.

Requirements

  • For Lecturer:
  • A MSc in Geological Sciences or Applied Geosciences.
  • Evidence of emerging research output (publications and/or conference contributions).
  • Two years experience in teaching or facilitating learning at tertiary level.
  • For Senior Lecturer:
  • A PhD in Geological Sciences or Applied Geosciences.
  • A sustained record of accredited research publications.
  • Proven experience in postgraduate supervision (Master’s and/or Doctoral).
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development and academic leadership.
  • One or more years of experience in tertiary level education.
