About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Staff Food Chef to join our team in Stellenbosch, responsible for designing and managing menus that cater to diverse tastes and dietary requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong culinary background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing varied menus that accommodate different tastes and dietary requirements
- Managing the cooking process in large quantities, maintaining quality and taste
- Ensuring kitchen compliance with health and safety regulations (proper food storage, temperature control, sanitizing workspaces)
- Controlling food waste, maintaining portion control, and ordering inventory to stay within budget
- Coordinating service times to match staff breaks and ensuring food is available and fresh
- Supervising junior staff or kitchen assistants and maintaining a clean, organized dining environment
Requirements
- Grade 12 A formal cheffing qualification
- At least 23 years of professional experience in a similar or lodge environment
- Relevant chef qualification
- Ability to plan, prep, and cook nutritious, cost-effective meals for staff while managing inventory and minimizing waste
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene standards (HACCP)
- Capacity to handle high-pressure situations, long hours, and physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment
- Good command of English and the ability to work as part of a team
