About the Role
The Assistant Production Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our blueberry farm, working closely with the General Manager to develop and implement strategies to maximize yield and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and overseeing all farming activities, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting of blueberries.
- Monitor crop health and implement pest and disease control measures.
- Supervise and train farm workers to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Coordinate with the General Manager to develop and implement farm strategies.
- Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices.
- Assist in managing farm budgets, calculating formulas, procurement of supplies, and cost control.
- Maintain farm equipment and ensure proper operation and maintenance schedules.
- Collect and analyse farm data to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Support in marketing and distribution activities as required.
- Liaise with suppliers, buyers, and stakeholders as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in fruit farming, preferably in blueberries.
- Strong knowledge of blueberry cultivation techniques, pest management, and irrigation systems.
- Experience in supervising and leading teams.
- Must be fluent in Afrikaans and English.
- Familiar with farm machinery and equipment.
- Basic understanding of budgeting and farm financial management.
- Must be able to calculate formulas.
- Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work long hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
- Valid drivers license.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to farm management.
- Knowledge of sustainable farming practices.
- Proficiency in using farm management software (preferred).
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
