About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and overseeing all farming activities, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting of blueberries.
• Monitor crop health and implement pest and disease control measures.
• Supervise and train farm workers to ensure efficient and safe operations.
• Coordinate with the General Manager to develop and implement farm strategies to maximize yield and quality.
• Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices.
• Assist in managing farm budgets, calculating of formulas, procurement of supplies, and cost control.
• Maintain farm equipment and ensure proper operation and maintenance schedules.
• Collect and analyse farm data to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Support in marketing and distribution activities as required.
• Liaise with suppliers, buyers, and stakeholders as necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in fruit farming, preferably in blueberries.
• Strong knowledge of blueberry cultivation techniques, pest management, and irrigation systems.
• Experience in supervising and leading teams.
• Must be fluent in Afrikaans and English.
• Familiar with farm machinery and equipment.
• Basic understanding of budgeting and farm financial management.
• Must be able to calculate formulas.
• Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to work long hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
• Valid drivers license.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and a proactive approach to farm management.
• Knowledge of sustainable farming practices.
• Proficiency in using farm management software (preferred).
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
