About the Role
Aspire Recruiting is seeking an experienced and skilled Plaasvoorman for a successful mixed farm in the Free State. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the daily operational management of the farm, with a focus on cattle and irrigation systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical person who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and taking ownership of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management: Planning, coordination, and execution of daily operational activities on the farm.
- Cattle management: Overseeing the health, nutrition, breeding, and culling of cattle, including weaning and feeding management.
- Irrigation management: Monitoring and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure optimal water usage and crop growth.
- Mechanical maintenance: General maintenance, repairs, and servicing of farm equipment, tractors, implements, and infrastructure.
- Fire management: Planning, implementing, and managing fire prevention strategies (e.g., creating firebreaks) and responding to fires when necessary.
- Personnel supervision: Assigning daily tasks and overseeing general farm workers.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years proven experience in a Plaasvoorman or similar management position on a mixed farm.
- Strong mechanical background and technical skills are essential.
- Practical knowledge of cattle breeding and management.
- Experience in crop production (specifically maize) and planted grazing under irrigation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Strict work ethic with an emphasis on accuracy and integrity in all aspects of the job.
- Good interpersonal skills and basic personnel management skills.
- Valid farm management license.
