About the Role
Meridian Services is seeking an experienced National Assets Manager based in Cape Town to manage the end-to-end management, optimisation, and governance of all operational assets on a national level. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring cost efficiency, robust asset control, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness through structured processes and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Asset-related costs are actively managed and reduced across all asset categories without impacting operations.
- All assets are accurately recorded, tracked, audited, and fully accounted for across the business.
- Vehicles, trade assets, and IT equipment are available, functional, and support uninterrupted operations.
- Consistent policies, processes, and controls are implemented across all asset categories.
- All incidents are managed with employee safety as the first priority, with structured support and escalation.
- Full adherence to legal, insurance, safety, and operational requirements.
- Asset planning, procurement, and optimisation decisions are driven by accurate data and insights.
- Assets are optimally acquired, utilised, redeployed, and disposed of to maximise value.
- Manage and optimise total cost of ownership across all asset classes (vehicles, trade assets, IT equipment), including fuel, maintenance, leasing, insurance, repairs, and replacement costs.
- Lead procurement processes including sourcing, quoting, negotiation, purchasing, and delivery of assets, ensuring alignment to financing models (e.g. ISAs), fair usage policies, and cost optimisation objectives.
- Oversee full asset lifecycle including acquisition, utilisation, redeployment, and disposal; manage sale of assets including listings, pricing, staff allocation, and inter-BU transfers.
- Ensure all operational assets (vehicles, trade assets, IT equipment) are available, functional, and aligned to support uninterrupted business operations and service delivery.
- Minimise operational disruption by proactively managing asset risks, availability, and contingency planning across regions and functions.
- Manage relationships with asset-related suppliers (fleet, maintenance, IT, trade assets), ensuring performance, cost efficiency, and adherence to service level agreements.
- Maintain and manage asset registers, tagging, audits, counts, and inspections; oversee allocation and recovery of assets for new joiners and exiting employees.
- Monitor and manage performance of all assets, including utilisation, condition, maintenance, and cost efficiency across vehicles, trade assets, and IT equipment.
- Centralise and manage all repairs and maintenance through Wesbank Managed Maintenance, ensuring cost control and service quality.
- Ensure compliance across all asset-related requirements including licensing, insurance, fines, inspections, and regulatory obligations across all asset types.
- Track, audit, and redeploy trade assets (e.g. fridges) to ensure optimal utilisation and control.
- Manage lifecycle of IT equipment including allocation, tracking, recovery, repair, and upgrade cycles in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs, policies, and governance frameworks to standardise asset management across the business.
- Oversee the full asset insurance function including claims management, risk mitigation, policy alignment, and cost recovery.
- Establish and lead national protocols for managing transport-related incidents (e.g. hijackings, accidents), ensuring immediate employee safety, structured response, escalation to line management and HR, and post-incident support including medical, psychological, and operational recovery.
- Utilise asset management systems (fleet, IT, trade assets), telematics, and tracking tools to ensure full visibility, control, and reporting across all asset classes.
- Provide data-driven insights on fleet performance, cost, utilisation, and optimisation opportunities.
- Manages full asset ecosystem (vehicles, trade assets, IT equipment) across lifecycle stages including acquisition, utilisation, redeployment, and disposal.
- Drives cost-to-serve optimisation through control of procurement, financing models (ISAs), maintenance, insurance, and asset ROI.
- Leads sourcing, negotiation, supplier performance management, and contract optimisation to ensure cost efficiency and service quality.
- Ensures full asset visibility, audit integrity, policy enforcement, and compliance across all asset classes.
- Manages operational risk, including incident response (e.g. hijackings), insurance, and employee safety protocols.
- Uses asset systems (fleet, IT, trade), telematics, and BI tools to drive reporting, forecasting, and decision-making.
- Develops and implements SOPs and governance frameworks to standardise asset management nationally.
- Aligns asset investment and utilisation strategy to business growth, scalability, and operational requirements.
- Takes full responsibility for asset performance, cost, control, and operational impact across the business.
- Makes decisions with strong cost, ROI, and value impact awareness.
- Uses data, trends, and insights to optimise asset utilisation and performance.
- Maintains high accuracy across asset registers, compliance, and reporting.
- Effectively manages suppliers and internal stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Enforces policies, controls, and standards consistently across the business.
- Actively identifies and drives optimisation opportunities across the asset base.
