About the Role
As Head of Architecture, you will take full ownership of the architectural direction of a mission-critical payments ecosystem processing billions of transactions across Southern Africa. You will lead a small, highly skilled team of architects and guide technical strategy while remaining deeply involved in design decisions, patterns, and system evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide technical strategy for the payment systems ecosystem
- Lead design decisions, patterns, and system evolution
- Collaborate with developers, solution architects, and business stakeholders to ensure high standards of scalability, performance, and security
- Play a key role in shaping complex, high-impact initiatives across multiple regions
- Balance big-picture thinking with hands-on technical depth
Requirements
- Extensive experience in payment systems, particularly retail transaction processing
- Strong technical foundation with a background in software development or solution architecture
- Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and modular solutions
- Strong analytical thinking and excellent communication skills
- Experience leading or mentoring technical teams (especially small, high-performing teams)
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related field preferred
