About the Role

As Head of Architecture, you will take full ownership of the architectural direction of a mission-critical payments ecosystem processing billions of transactions across Southern Africa. You will lead a small, highly skilled team of architects and guide technical strategy while remaining deeply involved in design decisions, patterns, and system evolution.

Key Responsibilities

Guide technical strategy for the payment systems ecosystem
Lead design decisions, patterns, and system evolution
Collaborate with developers, solution architects, and business stakeholders to ensure high standards of scalability, performance, and security
Play a key role in shaping complex, high-impact initiatives across multiple regions
Balance big-picture thinking with hands-on technical depth

Requirements

Extensive experience in payment systems, particularly retail transaction processing
Strong technical foundation with a background in software development or solution architecture
Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and modular solutions
Strong analytical thinking and excellent communication skills
Experience leading or mentoring technical teams (especially small, high-performing teams)

Qualifications

Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related field preferred
