About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Turner with expertise in turning and milling operations to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining precision components using conventional and/or CNC machines, ensuring high-quality output that meets engineering drawings and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain lathe (turning) and milling machines (manual and/or CNC)
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Manufacture components to tight tolerances and quality standards
- Perform tool setting, calibration, and adjustments for optimal machining performance
- Conduct routine inspections and measurements using precision instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
- Ensure machine maintenance and report any faults or breakdowns
- Assist with repairs, rework, and modifications of components and assemblies
- Maintain production records and adhere to job card requirements
- Comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes and efficiency
Requirements
- Trade Test Certificate – Qualified Turner / Machinist
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Proven experience with: conventional turning (lathe work), milling machines (manual and/or CNC)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of tolerances, fits, and machining practices
- Familiarity with measuring equipment and quality control processes
