About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional wine professional to join our prestigious private members club in Cape Town as Head Sommelier I. The ideal candidate will be a refined and knowledgeable individual with a passion for storytelling, pairing excellence, and delivering an unforgettable guest journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee a sophisticated, globally inspired wine list aligned with the club’s culinary and aesthetic vision.
- Manage cellar stock, wine storage, purchasing, and supplier relationships with precision and professionalism.
- Lead staff training in wine knowledge, food pairing, and service etiquette.
- Ensure perfect mise en place and world-class service across all beverage experiences.
- Curate pairings and pouring’s for fine-dining experiences, private events, and tastings.
- Work closely with the Executive Chef to align pairings with seasonal menus and special occasions.
- Provide a memorable, elegant, and knowledgeable experience for every guest interaction.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sommelier or beverage leadership role within luxury dining or hospitality.
- WSET Level 2 or higher (preferred).
- Extensive international wine knowledge and strong grasp of food & wine pairing principles.
- Impeccable service standards, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering guest excellence.
- Inspiring leadership and team training ability.

No formal education/certifications required.
Salary & Benefits
R25k to R30k.
