About the Role
We are seeking a talented and creative Pastry Sous Chef to join our luxury wilderness reserve in Clanwilliam. As a key member of our culinary team, you will support the Executive Chef in delivering exceptional pastry, dessert, and baking experiences for our guests in a high-end hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting all pastry and dessert offerings
- Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene
- Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff in the pastry section
- Monitor stock levels, ordering, and cost control for the pastry department
- Ensure smooth daily kitchen operations and adherence to schedules
- Collaborate with the culinary team to create seasonal menus and special desserts
- Uphold all health, safety, and hygiene standards
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Pastry Sous Chef or similar role in a luxury lodge or high-end restaurant
- Strong knowledge of baking, pastry techniques, and dessert preparation
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining creativity and consistency
- Leadership and mentoring skills
- Understanding of food cost, stock management, and kitchen organisation
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (e.g. Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent)
Salary & Benefits
R12,000 – R18,000 per annum
