Durban: Fermentation Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fermentation Specialist to join our team in Durban, responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our fermentation plant. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of plant unit operations and fermentation technology, with experience in executing plant procedures to meet productivity, efficiency, food safety, and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute plant procedures to meet productivity, efficiency, food safety & quality targets
  • Continuous monitoring of plant parameters
  • Reviewing of analytical results
  • Taking corrective actions
  • Liaising with and coordinating maintenance activities on utilities and fermentation plan with the Maintenance and Project Managers
  • Updating the production schedule or plan to ensure that the weekly production target is met
  • Conducting weekly stock takes
  • Confirming WH stock take variances

Requirements

  • Good understanding of plant unit operations
  • Explicit understanding of fermentation technology
  • BSc or MTech Chemical Engineering / Biotechnology (essential and non-negotiable)
  • Minimum 5 years in fermentation plant operations
  • 2 years supervisory experience is essential and non-negotiable

Qualifications

  • Formal education/certifications: BSc or MTech Chemical Engineering / Biotechnology
